Helena Godinho, professor at the Department of Materials Science and researcher at CENIMAT|i3N, was recently awarded The Lars Onsager Professorship 2023, by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
Lars Onsager was a distinguished Norwegian scientist, later naturalised as an American, who received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1968 for his work oon irreversible thermodynamics. He devoted himself to many other fields, notably the study of liquid crystalline systems.
Since 1993, NTNU has honoured this historic figure in science and engineering with the Lars Onsager Lecture and the Lars Onsager Professorship, which recognise leading international scholars in the fields of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
The Lars Onsager Professorship awardee is expected to conduct scientific work and deliver seminars at NTNU for a period of 3 to 6 months, and will be treated as Full Professor.
