Elvira Fortunato distinguished with the Career and Recognition Award 2023 of the Portuguese Society of Materials

Elvira Fortunato, the current Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education and former professor and researcher at the Department of Materials Science of NOVA School of Science and Technology, is the winner of the Career and Recognition Award 2023 of the Portuguese Society of Materials (SPM).

The Board of Directors of SPM announced the attribution of this distinction, acknowledging her excellence on teaching and research activities, as well as her contributions to development and innovation in the field of Materials, whose social relevance is unquestionable, at national and international level.

As a world pioneer in paper electronics, namely in transistors, memories, batteries, displays, antennas and solar cells, she is known as the "mother" of the paper transistor and has been accumulating many awards throughout her career,  including three ERC grants, the World Engineering Award international WFEO GREE Award Women in Engineering Award, from the International Federation of Engineering (WFEO), the Person Pessoa 2020 Award and the Horizon 2020 Impact Award, among many others.

The Prize, that this year will also be awarded to João Bordado, Professor of the Chemical Engineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico, will be presented during the Closing Session of the MATERIALS 2023 meeting, which will take place at Centro Cultural Vila Flor, in Guimarães, on April 6.
