Ricardo Jardim Gonçalves, Full Professor at FCT NOVA, was on February 21 in a private meeting with the Minister of Economy Pedro Siza Vieira and the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Manuel Heitor.
The meeting allowed a personalized presentation of the projects Smart4Health and ZDMP. Two European projects led by Ricardo Jardim Gonçalves totaling € 38 million, placing FCT NOVA as the largest Portuguese institution to coordinate H2020 funds. Pedro Siza Vieira praised the relevance of this success to the national economy and its projection at European and international level. Manuel Heitor highlighted the importance it brings to the country on a scientific and technological level, especially in an area that has been little used in terms of European funding for research and development in digital technologies applied to health.
On February 22nd, at the meeting "Science, Innovation and Higher Education in Portugal: One Year After OECD Evaluation", Ricardo Jardim Gonçalves had the opportunity to present the presentation to Prime Minister António Costa and to Dominique Guellec, "Head of Science and Technology Policy Division of the OECD”.
Dominique Guellec stressed the value these projects add to the projection of the Portuguese and European economy through concerted cooperation in science and technology between actors in the digital and health areas. The Prime Minister added that they are a benchmark for the growth of a more innovative and productive economy of public interest.
Professor Virgílio Cruz Machado, FCT NOVA’s Dean, the largest organic unit at NOVA University in Lisbon, alludes to FCT NOVA's mission as a center for the generation, transmission and application of knowledge at an international level.
Professor Ricardo Jardim Gonçalves is a professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEE) at FCT NOVA and coordinates the GRIS research unit of the Center for Technology and Systems (CTS) at the New Technologies Development Institute of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNINOVA ).
