What do we do
To better serve the community, the NOVA FCT Careers’ team promotes career management sessions, a mentoring program and the Career Discovery Events. These initiatives aim to showcase the main personal and professional development opportunities available to students and Alumni.
The Careers area offers individual and personalized support to all NOVA FCT students.
In these sessions, you can clarify questions related to your academic and professional path, adapt your CV, identify job opportunities or learn more about internships suited to your profile.
It is also possible to clarify questions regarding the use of the Career Management platform — CareerOS.
The sessions take place online via Google Meet.

Internships are a fundamental stage in students’ academic training, allowing them to apply the knowledge acquired in the classroom to real work environments. This experience contributes to the development of technical skills but, above all, essential personal skills, while deepening their understanding of the job market and helping build a solid and informed professional path.
The Careers area supports students throughout all stages of the internship process, ensuring that each opportunity contributes to a high‑quality learning experience.
Curricular Internships PIPP/PIIC
All NOVA FCT students complete a short-term curricular internship in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree — they may choose between the Professional Practice Introduction Program (PIPP) or the Scientific Research Introduction Program (PIIC). More information available here.
Dissertation Internships
These are curricular internships lasting between 6 months and 1 year, carried out within the Master’s Dissertation course unit, which allow students to develop their final project in a real research or company environment. These internships offer the opportunity to apply advanced knowledge, deepen technical skills and work on concrete challenges, contributing either to scientific production or to innovation in a professional setting.
Under the joint supervision of NOVA FCT and the Host Entity, students develop autonomous, structured work aligned with the objectives of their dissertation, strengthening their preparation for entering the job market or continuing their studies.
Extracurricular Internships
Extracurricular internships allow students to complement their academic training through practical experiences in a professional environment. These internships, carried out voluntarily and alongside their academic path, offer the opportunity to explore areas of interest, develop technical and transversal skills and engage with different organizational contexts. With the support of the Host Entity and the guidance of NOVA FCT, students strengthen their preparation for the job market and broaden their perspective on possible career paths.
