On the International Day of the Girl Child, the program "Women Engineers for a Day" celebrates the beginning of its 6th edition with the event "Shaping the future: International Day of Girls Day".
The meeting, that will take place next October 11th, at Romeu Correia Municipal Forum, in Almada, will be dedicated to sharing inspiring practices from several organisations and the educational community in terms of gender equality and the fight against gender segregation in professional career.
The Programme "Women Engineers for a Day"is an initiative from the Portuguese Republic, coordinated by the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality and by INCoDe.2030, in conjunction with the Portuguese Association for Diversity and Inclusion (APPDI), the Instituto Superior Técnico, the Order of Engineers and involves a network of 88 partner organisations (11 of which are municipalities), 55 primary and secondary schools and 19 higher education institutions.
Its mission is to promote, among students in non-higher education, the choice of engineering and technology, deconstructing the idea that these are male domains.
Since its creation, in 2017, it has already reached 12,554 young people, from primary and secondary education, through practical laboratory activities, role model and mentoring sessions, that are integrated in the National Strategy for Equality and Non-Discrimination - Portugal Mais Igual.
In order to strengthen the Programme and its partners network, it was created, in December 2021, the Alliance for Equality in ICT, in which NOVA School of Science and Technology is part of, focusing on training, empowerment, hiring and retention of more girls and women for the area of technologies and engineering.
The event is free of charge, upon registration in this form, and will be broadcasted (ambas estao correctas mas esta soa melhor) online.
